No audio and/or video from your computer

If you've joined a table from your computer and cannot hear, be heard, or be seen then follow the instructions below:

  1. Refresh your browser.
  2. Check that your Camera and Microphone are not muted. Faded icons indicate that the device is currently muted.
  3. If your devices are not muted, but you are still experiencing issues make sure in your computer settings that the correct Camera, Microphone and Speaker devices have been selected for your system. A guide to computer settings can be seen below.

Other audio steps to check:

  • To make sure you can be heard, check if your mic device has any hardware mute buttons on it, for instance:
    • If the headset cord has a flashing red light, there may be a unmute button on the headset cord that needs to be pressed,
    • USB speakerphone devices may have mute/unmute buttons on them, and
    • If someone uses HDMI output to TV sound, need to make sure the TV has speakers, and that the volume on the TV is turned up.
  • If you can't hear anyone:
    • The other participant may be having a microphone problem on their end,
    • Ask the other party if they have muted their device.
  • Test your microphone and speaker with this online tooll: online mic test.

If you still have problems being heard, change the Recording settings in your Computer:

Windows PC

  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording ->
  • Double-click on the microphone being used (if you have more than 1 in this list), and click on 'Levels'
  • Move the 'Microphone' volume pointer to 50+ (Ensure this is not at zero, and that the speaker is not muted)
  • Ensure Mute is off ... the speaker icon does not have a red circle/slash

Mac

  • Go to System Preferences -> Sound ->
  • In the Input tab, click on your mic used and ensure:
    • The Input and Output volume is at least 50%, preferably higher
    • Test your speech, making sure the Input Level meter shows activity
  • In the Output tab, make sure your balance is in the middle
  • Also, in the "Audio MIDI setup" utility, make sure Mic mute isn't turned on

Currently ThePub.ie is best suited to be used in a browser on Desktop PCs and Macs. If you choose to use ThePub.ie on your smartphone please be aware of the following:

Android OS

On Android operating systems, ThePub.ie should work for Chrome and Firefox out of-the-box. They are able to work with other browsers after Android Ice Cream Sandwich version (4.0).

Apple

Apple has not yet made any announcement about their plans to support the technology ThePub.ie is built on in iPhone OS going forward. ThePub.ie team are working on a native iOS application, currently ThePub.ie will work in Safari on iPhones and iPads.

No, you cannot record your interactions at a table.

Your microphone and camera will immediately caese connection with the table and you can enjoy your call seamlessly. You will then be returned to the table.

On Desktop

Click the three dots on the top right of the video feed and select mute video or hide video.

On Mobile

Double tap the video feed and select mute audio or hide video.

NOTE

This does not mute your audio or hide your video for the other party you are muting - to do that you must mute/hide your own video/audio using the tools next to your video feed in the top left of your screen.

iOS (Apple iPhone or iPad)

Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone
or
Settings > Privacy > Microphone
and switch on the toggle for Safari. - Note ThePub.ie is currently only supported on Safari.

Android (Samsung / HTC / Huwawei devices etc)

Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > App permissions > Microphone
or
Settings > Apps & notifications > App permissions > Camera
and switch on the toggle for the browser you are using - Chrome/Firefox etc. - Note depending on your device manufacturer this journey may be slightly different. Please consult your device user manual or online support if you run in to trouble finding the appropriate menu.
